Who are we and what do we do?

The Wiltshire Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) provide treatment for people who:

  • are suffering from a sudden and severe episode of mental ill health and require specialist treatment or
  • have a severe and enduring mental illness requiring long term use of very specialised drugs.

We are made up of Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, a Dietician, a Physiotherapist and Support Workers; all supported by an Administration team.

Where and when do we work?

The New CMHT operates from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm excluding Bank Holidays. We offer appointments in Devizes, Marlborough or Chippenham (depending on the clinics available).

Sometimes it is better to see you in your own home.

How do I get referred?

All service users are referred via the Primary Care Mental Health Liaison Service (PCLS) or Acute Hospital Liaison Service.

What will happen next?

You will be given a Care Co-ordinator from our team. They will be your main point of contact and will play a key role in your care.

They will work closely with you and, if you are able, will agree a plan for your treatment.  This is called a Care Plan.

What do we offer?

We offer a range of interventions to support you in moving forward towards recovery depending you your needs. These may include the use of medication and talking therapies.

If needed, your Care Co-ordinator will arrange for you to see other members of the team, making sure things run as smoothly as possible.

How long will I be under the care of the CMHT?

Most service users will have treatment for a specific time.  We will let you know how long this is likely to be.

After this time, your care will be transferred back to your GP.

Carer’s family and friends

Family members and friends who provide a lot of care or support are described as ‘carers’ and are entitled to a carer’s assessment.

This assessment looks at the impact the caring situation has on them.  We are able to arrange for these assessments to be completed by Wiltshire Council.

Where can I get more information?

We can give you details of local organisations that may be able to support you further with your mental health issues.

We can also provide up to date written information on specific mental illness, medications or talking therapies you may be offered.

Confidentiality

Discussions between you and members of our team are confidential.

However, if we feel you are at high risk of harm to yourself or others, we may need to tell other agencies to keep you safe. We will tell you if this needs to happen.
