Who are CITT?
The Complex Intervention and Treatment Team (CITT) is a health and social care team who provide specialist treatment for people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, and those with dementia. The team consists of doctors, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and Mental Health support workers.
The team usually work with people over the age of 65; but will work with anyone whose needs are best met by our service.
The team can refer to specialist psychologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
How do people access the service?
Referrals come from GPs, community services and local general hospitals via the Primary Care Liaison Team (PCLS).

Your mental health and social support needs will be assessed.
What service does the team offer?
A care plan will be created with the service user and/or carer to help meet the needs identified and to ensure the best quality of life. This plan may include:
- Checking the service user’s mental health and reviewing how well the care plan is working;
- Signposting service users or carers who are paying for their care to appropriate services;
- Buying care from the local authority such as care and support at home; or if needed, residential and nursing care, day care, respite care (or via a personal budget direct payment);
- Organising admission to hospital if needed;
- Providing support and information for carers and families.

How we work
We aim to improve quality of life for both service users and carers by:
- Offering person centred ‘holistic’ assessments (which take account of the whole person, not just the symptoms of their illness:
- Increasing and maintaining people’s independence and respecting their lifestyle choices;
- Promoting the service user’s safety and well-being;
- Providing flexible and creative care plans which meet individual needs;
- Working in partnership with the local community to achieve positive outcomes.
