The effects

  • 2C drugs have psychedelic, hallucinogenic and stimulant effects.
  • Users report an energy buzz with feelings of alertness and being in tune with surroundings.
  • The more you take, the more intense and uncontrollable the experience will be.
  • Effects usually last from two to four hours but sometimes longer.
  • 2CB can cause serious delusions due to their hallucinogenic effects.
  • They may cause headaches, nausea and vomiting.
  • At high doses, users can get confused and agitated.

After effects can include low mood, feeling dizzy, tiredness and mood swings.

The risks

  • Long-term use can make underlying mental health problems worse, such as depression and schizophrenia.
  • Reports of immediate effects include panic attacks and acute psychosis.
  • There is evidence that 2C compounds can powerfully over-stimulate the heart and circulation.
  • It is not yet known if they cause any long- term damage but there have been reports of hospitalisations associated with use of these types of drugs.

The Law

  • Many Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) are controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971).
  • 2CB and other substances that come under the ’2C’ variations, are Class A drugs, which means they are illegal to possess, sell or give away.
  • Possession can result in prosecution and up to a seven year prison sentence or an unlimited fine.
  • Supplying someone else, even your friends, can result in a life sentence or an unlimited fine.

Being convicted of a drug-related offence could have a serious impact on your future.

This could affect the types of jobs you apply for and stop you from entering some countries.
