Busie Khumalo, who is a Specialist Practitioner for Swindon completed the 2nd stage earlier this year alongside her job at AWP.

The NHS England (Midlands) award-winning Developing Aspirant Leaders (DAL) Programme supports ethnic minority nurses and midwives aspiring towards a senior leadership role. DAL was created by ethnic minority nurses and midwives, for ethnic minority nurses and midwives and provides academic learning, sponsorship, and the ability to safely stretch, delivering a sustainable positive action scheme for progression.

Catriona Sanderson, Divisional Director of Nursing for BSW - BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire said:

“Busie has worked incredibly hard over the past 6+ months on this programme and we are incredibly proud of her achievement. Busie is a great example of a leader and clinician, and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with her and to learn from her on this programme and I hope we can continue to learn and develop together going forward.”

Catriona supported Busie throughout the programme. Busie says:

“Catriona prioritised me, even though she was completely snowed under. May you not do this just for me, and I hope that we give back what you gave one way or the other and that we pass on the principles you hold so dearly – being a present and supportive leader.

I will say in my language “ Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”-  “I am because you are !”

I am so grateful for the support I got from you, my previous, and current managers. However, I want to acknowledge that there is still a long way to go still!”
