Adult acute mental health wards and community mental health services provided by AWP have been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The services are used by patients across Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire. The reports, published on Wednesday, April 9 follows inspections which took place in June 2024.
On the acute wards and psychiatric intensive care units, the CQC said the service had made “significant improvements’ since it’s last inspection.
Patients said that staff were ‘supportive, caring and kind.’
The CQC also said staff were ‘passionate about the work they do…with a shared vision to provide person-centred, recovery focussed care to patients.’
Our adult acute wards and psychiatric intensive care units are based across the southwest including in Callington Road and Southmead Hospitals in Bristol, Fountain Way in Salisbury, Green Lane Hospital in Devizes, Sandalwood Court in Swindon, Hillview Lodge in Bath, and the Long Fox Unit in Weston-super-Mare.
All these services have now been rated “Good” overall by the CQC.
On community mental health services, the CQC also said there had been ‘significant improvements.’
Patients felt ‘listened to and involved in the planning and delivery of their care’ and staff felt valued and able to raise concerns. The report added that managers of these services led with ‘integrity, openness and honesty’.
These community services operate across the region and are also now rated “Good” overall.
Sarah Jones, our Director of Nursing & Quality, said: “We are extremely proud that the significant improvements made across these services have been reflected in this report. Our staff and teams deserve huge credit for the progress they have made.
“While we are pleased to receive a Good rating, we will remain focussed on building on these improvements, so all our patients and carers continue to receive services which are safe, effective, and provide a positive all-round experience.”
