We have a well-established partnership with local partners, including police forces and the ambulance service to support people experiencing a mental health emergency.
In BNSSG, our Integrated Access Partnership, which combines mental health support into urgent and emergency care front door services across both 999 and 111 for people in mental health crisis, won a regional Parliamentary Award in June, and is shortlisted in the Patient Safety category in the upcoming national Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.
“We have long standing good working relationships with both Avon and Somerset Police and Wiltshire Police. We support the principle of ensuring that people receive a health response to a health issue and work with the Police to ensure we are clear where their support is required. We are already achieving several of the requirements of Right Care Right Person such as using ambulances rather than police vehicles and ensuring that officers are quickly released when they bring someone to an AWP Place of Safety. The national guidance for Police Forces and the NHS will be published later in the year and at that point we will meet with the constabularies and other partners including local authorities to develop our local procedures.”
