Local people caring for someone with a mental health condition are being invited to a support event run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP). Hosted on Thursday 3 October, the event will support and recognise the vital role carers play in the lives of people with mental illness or learning disabilities.

The in person ‘Let’s Talk Carers’ event is co-produced by members of AWP staff and carers, and will feature a mix of engaging workshops, opportunity to connect with fellow carers and access to valuable resources throughout the day.

Every day, carers across the country are providing practical or emotional support to someone in need. Caring or supporting someone with a mental health condition can feel lonely and accessing mental health services in crisis situations can be stressful. We are here to provide support and information to help you in your role as a carer.

Sarah Jones, Director of Nursing and Quality at AWP said, “Carers are essential to our community, and we recognise the need for them and their families to have access to information that helps them care for their loved ones. Through this event, we hope to raise awareness about the available support and provide valuable details about the services that can assist them in their caregiving roles.”

Jo Collins, Deputy Head of Patient and Carer Experience at AWP, said: “We want to recognise, appreciate, and thank all of our carers for the impact they have in helping us care for others. If you are looking after someone under our care, we encourage you to join us.”

We hope as many of our carers associated with AWP can join us at our FREE, in-person event on Thursday 3 October 2024, from 9:15am to 3:45pm at Somerdale Pavilion, Keynsham. For more information and to book your place, sign-up here or alternatively email awp.patientexperienceteam@nhs.net
