Mental Health Trust invites local carers to a day of celebration and support

Local people caring for someone with a mental health condition are being invited to a support event run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP). Hosted on Wednesday 27 September, the event will support and recognise the vital role carers play in the lives of people with mental illness or learning disabilities.

The in person ‘Let’s Talk Carers’ event is co-produced by members of AWP staff and carers, and will feature a mix of engaging workshops, opportunity to connect with fellow carers and access to valuable resources throughout the day.

Every day, carers across the country are providing practical or emotional support to someone in need. Caring or supporting someone with a mental health condition can feel lonely and accessing mental health services in crisis situations can be stressful. We are here to provide support and information to help you in your role as a carer.

Sarah Jones, Director of Nursing and Quality at AWP said, “Carers play a vital role in our community and we recognise that our carers and families need information to support them in caring for a loved one. We hope by holding this event for our carers we can highlight the support available and provide information about the support services that are available.”

Jo Collins, Deputy Head of Patient and Carer Experience at AWP, said: “We want to acknowledge, value and thank all of our carers for the difference they make in supporting us to care together. If you are carer for someone under our care, we encourage you to come along.”

We hope as many of our carers associated with AWP can join us at our FREE, in-person event on Wednesday 27 September 2023, from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Somerdale Pavilion, Keynsham. For more information and to book your place, sign-up here or alternatively email awp.patientexperienceteam@nhs.net.
