Local people who care for someone with a mental health condition or a learning disability came together at a support event organised by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) NHS Trust.
Carers were welcomed to a day of recognition and celebration for the vital role they play in supporting their loved ones. The event featured wellbeing workshops, insightful speakers, a free lunch with a raffle and fantastic prizes up for grabs, including vouchers donated by local businesses.
Representatives from local voluntary community and carer organisations provided additional support to signpost and raise awareness of the many services that are available to help carers in their invaluable roles.
Sarah Jones, Director of Nursing and Quality at AWP, said: “At AWP we recognise that caring or supporting someone with a mental health condition can feel lonely, but our ‘Let’s Talk Carers’ event provided the opportunity for carers to pause, connect and access local support and information.
"We were so pleased to have welcomed Dr Phil Hammond as our special guest who took the time to join the celebration and speak with carers and staff, which really added value to the day.
"Thank you to all our carers for coming along and making it such a special day."
Anastasia Blaize, Patient and Carer Experience Manager at AWP, said: “The Carers Event was a fabulous success. The vibe was electric and there were smiles and giggles all round. The speakers were engaging and well received by all. I am super proud of all that my colleagues (carers and staff) achieved to organise and host such a great event.”
Jean, a stragetic carer, said: “It has been great to connect with new carers. There was lots of important information shared and the Soundwell music therapy was a relaxing, calm haven. I’m so proud to have been part of organising this special event.”
