That’s the message for this years’ Time to Talk day, a national campaign which aims to get more people talking about mental health.
Thursday 6 February provides an opportunity to start those all-important conversations with friends, family or colleagues, it’s a chance to come together to talk, listen and change lives.
The campaign is run by mental health charities, Mind and Rethink Mental Illness as part of their ongoing anti-stigma campaign.
Time to Talk Day 2024 revealed that nearly two thirds of the UK public put on a brave face to avoid talking about their mental health. And nearly half of us are less likely to open up as we don't want to worry others in already difficult times.
But talking openly and honestly can be the first step towards better mental health for everyone. It can reduce stigma and help people feel comfortable enough to seek help when they need it.
If you or someone you know needs someone to talk to, but not sure where to turn, BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Talking Therapies service provides support for difficulties such as stress, anxiety or low mood. The NHS service is free and confidential for people who live and/or has a registered GP in the BSW area. You can also self-refer to the service by calling BaNES on 01225 675150, Swindon on 01793 836836 or Wiltshire on 01380 731335.
