As part of national Safer Gambling Week this week, the South West Gambling Service is raising awareness of the harmful impact gambling can have, and where to get support if you need it.
The South West Gambling Service is run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and provides specialist therapy. This includes a range of interventions including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). It supports people across the South West and works in partnership with Mental Health Matters, H2CD, Togetherall, Dr Julian and Intuitive Thinking Skills.
Chris Gillmore, Clinical Lead for AWP's South West Gambling Service said: “The service will offer people the very latest evidence-based treatments and support. Gambling disorder is a common mental health condition that has many negative effects on people's lives and we are pleased this has been recognised as a national and regional NHS priority.”
"Patients are able to self-refer into the service directly, or via referral from a local healthcare professional - so anybody who thinks they may need support should get in touch."

Stigma associated with addictions can prevent some people from seeking help, so a key part of Safer Gambling Week’s messaging is: Never be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. If you or someone you care about is affected by gambling.
