Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership (AWP) is marking Transgender Day of Visibility by ensuring LGBTQ+ colleagues have their voices heard and by tackling the important conversations of inclusion in the workplace.
Transgender Day of Visibility takes place every 31 March. It’s a day to celebrate trans and non-binary people and aims to raise awareness of the discrimination the community faces worldwide and to advocate for more protected rights.
AWP is recognising the importance of representing trans and non-binary people in the workplace by having open conversations with colleagues who are part of the community. We chatted to Kris, who’s a part of the Strategic Carer’s Group, Joint Strategic Carers and Service Use Group at AWP and Tazmin, who is a service user and part of the Strategic Carer’s Group about how they work together with AWP’s staff to improve care.
AWP continues to support the needs of transgender and non-binary people and others in the LGBTQ+ community through our LGBTQIA+ Network. The staff network has a key purpose to support and empower LGBTQIA+ staff, improve workplace inclusivity and create a sense of community. It aims to strengthen and actively promote an intersectionality based approached, taking into account different facets of individual identities.
